President of the Republic of Kosovo Hashim Thaçi meets with three leaders of the European UnionBrussels, 8-9 February 2017 - The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Mr Hashim Thaçi conducted a two-day visit to Brussels where he met with leaders President of the European Council, Mr Donald Tusk, President of the European Parliament, Mr Antonio Tajani, and President of the European Commission, Mr Jean-Claude Juncker.
Issues of mutual interest in relations between Kosovo and the European Union were discussed. The key topic of the meetinsg was the need to accelerate the process of Kosovo's EU integration and visa liberalization process. It was highlighted that the political and geo-strategic commitment of the EU is crucial for Kosovo and the region, because the future of the Western Balkans lies in the European Union.
The leaders of the institutions of the EU showed support to the European perspective for all Western Balkan countries, and expressed understanding and willingness to conclude the process of visa liberalization by underlining the need for ratification of the agreement on demarcation of the boundary line between Kosovo and Montenegro.
At these meetings, Presidnet Thaci informed his interlocutors abut the latest developments in Kosovo and stressed the need for strategic engagement of the EU in Kosovo and the Western Balkans.
"We are committed to our European future and we have made significant strides since the signing of the SAA, but the process of integration into the EU should accelerate through concrete actions, and any delays only undermine the credibility of the EU and weaken the support of the citizens of Kosovo for this process, " said President Thaçi.
President Thaci added that "it is essential for Kosovo, and the region, that the European Union remains committed to the Western Balkans and that this commitment need to be the political and geostrategic".
