Republic of Kosovo joins the World Custom OrganizationMinistry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Belgium has notified the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kosovo for the acceptance of its application in the founding Convention for Customs Cooperation Council and the World Customs Organization, the depository of which is the Belgian Government. The Republic of Kosovo has been registered as a member of the Convention since 25 January, 2017.
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Enver Hoxhaj assesed that after International Monetary Fund (IMF), the membership in the World Customs Organization is significantly important.
The membership of the Republic of Kosovo in WCO enables Customs of Kosovo to participate as a member with full rights in this organization, membership in conventions and other international instruments, it helps in trade with other countries etc. With regards to the domestic aspects it provides technical assistance, modernization and capacity building.
World Customs Organization (WCO) is an intergovernmental organization established in 1952 as the Customs Cooperation Council. The mission of WCO is to improve effectiveness and efficiency of the customs administration. Today, WCO comprises of 177 countries respectively 181 Customs administrations across the globe, which together represent around 98% of the world trade.
