President Thaçi in Japan: Enthronement, Bilateral with Prime Minister and “Thank You Japan” Awards CeremonyTokyo, 21-24 October 2019 – The President of the Republic of Kosovo, HE Mr Hashim Thaçi, paid a three day visit to Japan, attending the Enthronement Ceremony of the Emperor Naruhito, held a summit meeting with Prime Minister Abe Shinzo and presented presidential medals to nine Japanese dignitaries.
Upon arrival in Tokyo, President Thaçi was received for a summit meeting by Prime Minister Abe. Two leaders reaffirmed the excellent bilateral relations and expressed their readiness to further deepen the cooperation in many fields, especially in economy. This is their second meeting after the high level bilateral dialogue held in September 2019.
On 22 October, the President of the Republic of Kosovo alongside the Ambassador attended “Sokurei Seiden-no-gi”, the Ceremony of Enthronement of His Majesty Emperor Naruhito at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo. The “Kyoen-no-gi”, the Court Banquet after the Enthronement Ceremony followed at the Imperial Palace. On this occasion, President Thaçi, on behalf of the people of Kosovo, extended the warmest congratulations and wishes of peace and prosperity during the “Reiwa” era to the Emperor Naruhito and all the people of Japan.
The Prime Minister of Japan and his spouse also hosted a Banquet in respect of more than 180 heads of states participating in the Enthronement Ceremony. During this event, the President and his associates had the opportunity to greet and discuss with many high-level participating foreign dignitaries.
During this visit, as part of the increased activities for the 10th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, the Embassy of the Republic of Kosovo in Tokyo jointly with the Japan-Kosovo Friendship League at the House of Representatives of Japan organised an “Awards and President’s Address” Ceremony at the premises of the Parliament of Japan. The President availed himself of this opportunity to highly appreciate the continuous assistance and support of Japan and its people to Kosovo, and underlined that the second decade of bilateral relations should be that of further deepening of relations in many fields especially in economy. Here, the President invited the Japanese people to visit and invest in Kosovo.
On this occasion, presidential medals were presented to nine Japanese personalities, including Ms Yuriko Koike - the Governor of Tokyo, Mr Ryu Shionoya – Chairman of the Japan-Kosovo Friendship League at the National Diet of Japan, Mr Iijima Isao – Honorary Consul-General of the Republic of Kosovo in Tokyo, Ambassador Yoshifumi Okamura – former Permanent Representative of Japan to the UN, Mr Ken Inoue – former Administrator of the Skenderaj Municipality, the Tokyo Adventist Hospital, the Adventist Development and Relief Agency - ADRA.
This is the fourth official visit of His Excellency Mr Hashim Thaçi to Japan, twice as Prime Minister and now twice as the President of the Republic of Kosovo. In this visit, President Thaçi was accompanied by HE Mr Leon Malazogu – Ambassador of the Republic of Kosovo to Japan, and Mr Ardian Arifaj, Deputy Chief of Staff and Political Advisor of the President.
Upon departure, the President thanked the staff of the Embassy.
