Embassy of Kosovo in USA celebrates the sixth anniversary of Kosovo`s IndependenceWashington DC, 26th February 2014 - Embassy of the Republic of Kosovo in the United States of America / Washington marked the sixth anniversary of the Independence Day of the Republic of Kosovo. The official ceremony organized by the Embassy was held in the premises of the "Four Seasons" hotel in Washington, and was attended by senior officials of the State Department, Department of Defence, Congressman, ambassadors of several countries accredited in the host country (including Ambassadors of several states that have not recognized our country), Military Attachés (including military attachés of states that have not recognized our country), representatives of other international organizations and compatriots residing in the USA.
The official opening of this reception was conducted by the Ambassador of the Republic of Kosovo in the United States Mr. Akan Ismaili, who thanked the guests for their participation, and expressed appreciation to the contribution and irreplaceable support of the hosting country to the new country, and in particular emphasized the special relations between the United States of America and the Republic of Kosovo. In this regard, Ambassador Ismaili mentioned the already established partnership between the Republic of Kosovo and the state of Iowa, considering it as very important in further strengthening and deepening of the relations between the two nations.
Ambassador Ismaili, especially praised the presence of Ambassadors of countries that have not recognized Kosovo`s independence; the contribution provided by the Albanian-American Council and young activists from Kosovo, who are currently working for different International Organisations, and at the same time are promoting our country by organizing different activities and through social networks.
During this ceremony, the Minister of the Ministry for European Integration Ms. Vlora Çitaku, who was a special guest from Kosovo, addressed the attendees at this event. Minister Çitaku also presented an overview of developments in our country and expressed gratitude to the hosting country on their consistent support and substantial role starting from the intervention to prevent ethnic cleansing against the people of Kosovo to the achievement of latest agreement on the Normalization of Relations between the Republic of Kosovo and the Republic of Serbia. Whereas, on behalf of the State Department, Mr. Jonathan Moore, Director for South-Central Europe addressed the guests by reading a congratulatory letter sent by the American President, Barack Obama to the President of Kosovo, Ms. Atifete Jahjaga, on which he praises Kosovo`s achievements and progress, especially in the dialogue with Serbia and in the initiation of the Stabilisation and Association process as an important step toward integration into the European Union. On an occasional speech, Mr. Eliot Engel, an American Congressmen and a great friend of our country addressed the guests. Ambassador Ismaili took the advantage of this important event, that on behalf of the President of the Republic of Kosovo Ms. Atifete Jahjaga to award the Presidential Medal of Merit the former-American Ambassador to Kosovo, Mr. John Menzies, who was present at this event, for his activity and engagement on the affirmation of Kosovo`s issue.
