High-level meetings for Deputy Prime Minister Thaçi in USA

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hashim Thaçi, is heading to the USA, where he will attend the Prayer Breakfast with U.S. President Barack Obama. He will hold meetings at the State Department, the Pentagon and the National Security Council, before attending the UN Security Council session in New York.

Washington, 01 February – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hashim Thaçi, tomorrow begins officials meetings in the United States of America. During his visit to Washington DC, he is expected to hold meetings with representatives of the State Department, the Pentagon, the National Security Council, the Congress and the representatives of civil society and public life.

Furthermore, Thaçi will hold a lecture at the School of Advanced International Studies "John Hopkins”, before travelling to New York, where he will attend the next session of the UN Security Council.

Thaçi will attend the Prayer Breakfast with U.S. President Barack Obama and will meet with senior participants, including the leadership of the United States Congress and Senate, counterparts from around the world and American business leaders. At the State Department, Thaçi will meet with Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, Victoria Nuland. The focus of the meeting will be on bilateral relations and on deepening the cooperation for Kosovo’s Euro-Atlantic integrations, as well as war against extremism and terrorism.

Thaçi will continue his meetings in Pentagon, where he will meet with Dr. Evelyn N. Farkas, responsible for Russia, Ukraine and Eurasia. In this meeting, Thaçi will demand the continuation of USA support for achieving the formal agreement and to receive a roadmap for Kosovo’s membership in the Partnership for Peace, as a precondition for NATO membership and the dynamism of the transformation of the Kosovo Security Force.

Thaçi will also have meetings in the United State Congress and Senate. There, the Deputy Prime Minister Thaçi will meet with Senator Michael Turner and Ben Cardin from important committees for NATO and human rights. Thaçi will also meet with Congressmen George Holding, Eliot Engel and Michael Turner. He will then have a meeting at the National Security Council with the Director for European Affairs, where he will discuss regarding the developments in Kosovo’s security sector and the fight against extremism.

During his stay in Washington, Thaçi will meet with the former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and with foreign policy experts, Morton Abramovitz and Jimmy Hooper.
