Thaçi at the Pentagon, receives support for the transformation of the KSFWashington, 2 February 2015 First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Hashim Thaçi together with the Minister of European Integration, Bekim Çollaku, on an official visit to the United States today met with the Under Secretary of Defense, Evelyn Farkas, at the Pentagon.
At the meeting with Under Secretary Farkas it was estimated that this year will be crucial for the completion of the transformation of the Kosovo Security Force into the Armed Forces of Kosovo.
On this occasion, Thaçi emphasized that the whole process of the security sector review and the transformation of the KSF into the Armed Forces of Kosovo was made with the support of NATO and the U.S.
On the other hand, Under Secretary Farkas stressed that Kosovo will have the full support of the U.S. in the field of security. This process has the full support of the United States, said Farkas.
While it was noted that so far the steps of the transformation process of the KSF into the Armed Forces of Kosovo will make sure its path towards membership in the Partnership for Peace program and NATO.
After the meetings at the Pentagon, Thaçi held separate meetings with Senator Chris Murphy and Congressman George Holding. During his stay in the U.S., Thaçi will attend the Prayer Breakfast with President Barack Obama, where he will meet with top U.S. officials.
Thaçi will meet with the Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, Victoria Nuland, where they will discuss deepening bilateral relations, Kosovos Euro-Atlantic integration and the fight against extremism and terrorism.
During his stay in Washington, Thaçi will also meet with the former Secretary of State, Madeleine Albright, and foreign policy experts Morton Abramovitz and James Hooper. Before travelling to New York, where he will attend the next session of the UN Security Council, Thaçi will hold a lecture at the School of Advanced International Studies, Johns Hopkins University.
